Perth Airport New Runway Project - Landside Works

The demolition scope of the Airfield Landside (Main) Works includes demolition within the project footprint, along with remaining site clearance and stripping activities. This includes closure of Grogan Road, pavement removal and the dismantling of associated street lighting. In addition, all temporary drainage infrastructure from the Enabling Works and any redundant or disconnected service infrastructure within the boundary will be demolished.

The project involves building a new 3,000‑metre runway parallel to the existing main runway, supported by extensive bulk earthworks and the construction of runway pavements, shoulders, taxiway strips, clearways and runway end‑safety areas. It includes the development of parallel, link and rapid‑exit taxiways to enable efficient aircraft movement between the runway and terminals. The works also deliver full airfield lighting and guidance systems, such as AGL, MAGS, HIAL and PAPI, along with line marking, new navigation infrastructure including CAT I ILS, and safeguarding provisions for select CAT III operations. Additionally, the project installs all required ducting, low‑voltage power, communications networks and earthworks platforms for future Airservices Australia infrastructure.

The works include delivering new drainage infrastructure connected to the Southern and Northern Man Drains, with bird‑netted low‑flow channels to manage water safely. A perimeter vehicle access road, sealed gable roads for maintenance, and an emergency vehicle staging area will be constructed to support airfield operations. The scope also covers relocating impacted utility services, installing additional airside security fencing and gates, and constructing a new Airfield Lighting and Equipment Room (ALEER) with supporting fuel, electrical and communications infrastructure. Additionally, the project provides new airside security systems, such as cameras, detection systems and hostile vehicle mitigation, and prepares earthwork platforms, ducting, and service connections for the Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) facility.

It is expected the works will take approximately three years to complete.
